So there I am, in Portree, Skye. Small restaurant in the Harbour (where else?) 4 Scandinavians on the table next to me. Three phones on (network!!!) Dongle connected, so I actually got Internet and could check e-mail (yes, nerdness ever getting worse).
Been out on a nice drive today and yesterday, slept ‘rough’ in the tent under an enormous mountain (they call that a hill here). Found out it the morning that the small stream I camped next to had shifted because of the rain, so the tent nearly got flooded overnight. lol.
Gone out for a long weekend, and having a great time. It been a bit of rough the last weeks since I’ve had to decide to come back to the Netherlands. Quit my job two weeks ago and delayed writing or talking about it (denial! ![]()
Everything is quite ok here. Work is not easy (with quite a few things different) but it is all I had thought it would be. Scotland is great, Glaswegians are nice (great city!), and the sailing waters are a dream. So, everything is good basically, just for one thing: my partner Bert doesn’t want to leave Netherlands. Since he’s the most important thing in my life the decision to go back was easy. We are in this together.
The consequences of that decision are hard though, now that reality kicked in. It is very weird to emigrate, with the intention on staying for 20-ish years, then go back after 6 months. I’ve got loads to learn about working in the Uk, so still learning to work here, but then again already leaving. Now there loads of uncertainties about work, where to live etc.
Very strange times. I know some things for sure though. I’m not bored, and I wouldn’t have missed the time here for my life. It’s all so bloody intrestin!
Will keep you posted (whoever’s bothered to read this
PS someone know of a nice job for october? Near Lemmer, NL? Near is…

Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. I admire the way you gave immediate priority to your personal life, the things that really matter. You wouldn’t be the first one to go abroad, make a career, and go through with it, even if it would mean that you have to break up with your partner. Good luck with finding a new job in the NL. I’ll keep my eyes open for you.

No regrets whatsoever, had a way too interesting experience here.
